Role of Flouride on Thyroid Hormone Imbalance –A Mini Review

چکیده
Introduction In India, both Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) and fluorosis (due to consumption of excess fluoride), are the two most prevalent endemic diseases which coexist in certain regions in the country. Though goiter—an enlarged thyroid gland—is commonly recognized as a visible sign of iodine deficiency, the health effects of iodine deficiency reach far beyond those of goiter, and the significant impact of iodine deficiency on brain function in the fetus, as also in the development of the newborn and the child are now well documented. As early as 1928, Stocks observed that children consuming well water in the village of Somerset, England exhibited both goiter

متن کاملUpdate on Lipid Metabolism and Thyroid Disorders
Thyroid hormone plays an important role in the regulation of lipid metabolism. It acts predominantly through its nuclear receptors (thyroid hormone receptor α and β) to regulate the gene expression related to lipid metabolism. Both overt hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism result in abnormalities of lipid profile. However, changes in serum lipid profiles in patients with subclinical hypothyroidi...

Minimal stimulation in vitro fertilization (mini-IVF) consists of a gentle controlled ovarian stimulation that aims to produce a maximum of five to six oocytes. There is a misbelief that mini-IVF severely compromises pregnancy and live birth rates. An appraisal of the literature pertaining to studies on mini-IVF protocols was performed. The advantages of minimal stimulation protocols are report...
متن کاملPrenatal Exposures to Multiple Thyroid Hormone Disruptors: Effects on Glucose and Lipid Metabolism.
Background. Thyroid hormones (THs) are essential for normal human fetal development and play a major role in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. Delivery of TH to target tissues is dependent on processes including TH synthesis, transport, and metabolism. Thyroid hormone endocrine disruptors (TH-EDCs) are chemical substances that interfere with these processes, potentially leading to...
متن کاملRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MODE OF DELIVERY AND NEONATAL THYROID HORMONE LEVELS AT BIRTH: A NARRATIVE REVIEW
Thyroid hormones are essential for normal development of fetus. After birth changes in thyroid hormone enable the neonate to be adapted for postnatal life. Accordingly, attention to the level of neonatal thyroid hormones at birth is important. Several maternal and environmental factors influence this adaption. Various studies have shown the association of different neonatal, maternal, and pregn...
